This project has been a long time coming, I’ve known for a while I’ve wanted to do a castle or some sort, but I could never get one that quite felt like it fit my style.
This has to have been castle iteration 4 or 5. Everyone I tried before this either got to complex, too unnecessarily flashy, a brown and grey mess, or the Disney castle, that actually happened a lot!
So I stopped trying to find real world references, I scrapped the standard colour palette, and I just started with the mountain. Why did it have to be a standard looking mountain? Why did it need to have a flat plateau where the castle would sit? It could literally be anything, and I was stuck viewing it as a standard grey castle.
Once I got out of the idea of making it look authentic and realistic, I just decided to make a castle that fit my style. I liked the idea of the mountain being alone, a single spire with the castle perched on top looking around and it’s subjects. Once the mountain was done, the castle actually flowed pretty easily. Everything seemed to fall into place once the mountain was decided upon
Last was the colour palette, a more classic colour approach didn’t seem to fit a non classic style of castle, so naturally I had to make it bolder and add a lot more colour ( yay! ) After that was just add a few additional details such as the trees from my cottage model scene, and a bridge to access the castle, and I was done!
Fort Lavender is now open! ( The name is still a work in progress )
